After three years of curatorial practice in public space in Söder, Helsingborg, and deep engagement with the question of urban development in so-called vulnerable areas (utsatta områden) in Sweden, this project asks: What does it mean to curate at the neighborhood level? How can curatorial practice unfold beyond the center and outside traditional institutions? What dynamics, relationships, and conditions shape this work?
Kulturrummet is a new cultural and creative hub located in Söder—an area officially designated as vulnerable by the Swedish Police Authority. Established in April 2025, the space negotiates a platform for dialogue between urban development, contemporary art, and community life.
As the founder and curator of Kulturrummet, I approach the space as both a curatorial and research-based project. Over the coming three years, Kulturrummet will function as a living inquiry into embedded curating: a practice rooted in place and attuned to the social and political fabric of the neighborhood.
